Sociology is an academic subject and, while it can be studied in combination with any level 3 courses, the subjects that it particularly compliments are: History, Government & Politics, Geography, RS, Health & Social Care and Psychology.

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher but I had no idea what year groups or subject! After completing my A-levels I went on to study at the University of Cambridge. I studied at Magdalene College and had the best 3 years of my life so far. My degree was really varied and I had the opportunity to explore so many fascinating areas and even conduct my own educational research. After university I begun my teacher training with Teach First. I was thrown right in at the deep end and begun teaching a full timetable from day 1– with lots of support from great mentors I was able to develop my teaching skills quickly. After a few years teaching in Cambridge I relocated to Manchester to be closer to family. In Manchester I taught students from Year 7 to Year 13 and discovered my passion for A-level teaching. Although I have fond memories of teaching Geography I found myself drawn back to the social-sciences When a Sociology position opened at TSFA, it felt like the perfect fit. I am excited to meet you all in September.

When I graduated, I still had no idea what I wanted to do as a career.  I took a year out to volunteer in different areas and decided to pursue teaching - originally training in citizenship. I qualified in 2010 and accepted a job at Trinity Academy Halifax, where I quickly began teaching A level sociology. To develop my skills, I later moved to another school, where taught a multitude of subjects at different levels.

I decided that my true strengths as a teacher were A level teaching, so decided to accept a job at Trinity Sixth Form Academy so that I could play to these strengths

A sociology degree opens the door to a wide range of career opportunities because it develops skills in understanding people, society, and social issues. The skills you develop can be applied to areas such as social work, education, research, human resources, and public policy.
