Taking Risks

Taking risks is something that occurs in the lives of everyone, young or old. However what makes taking risk so "risky" is how it's always a tradeoff. In the textbook it says that "Taking risks can come with benefits and can also involve some costs and dangers." It's basically deciding to do something, but doing that thing has the potential to harm something else. Personally, risk taking happens almost everyday for me. Prioritizing homework, deciding what to eat before soccer practice, choosing what to wear to school, etc. are all risks I take in my daily life.

Engaging in risky behaviors can affect our lives in multiple ways. As it says in the textbook, " These risky behaviors can generate differing emotions such as excitement and anxiety, even though the risks are fairly minimal." There's for sure been times where we may have found even asking a question to be risky. One time, I wanted to ask my teacher a question because I didn't understand something, however it was kind of a dumb question. If I asked the question, I'm taking the risk of being laughed at; but If I didn't ask, I'm taking the risk of possibly never understanding the lesson. ( I did end up asking. I was laughed at)

Peer Pressure

Even though risk taking has potentially negative impacts, teens continue to engage in them. In most cases, this is due to peer pressure. According to the textbook, " Teenagers are
finding their feet in the world and part of that often includes a sense of wanting to belong and 'fit in'. " In my case, I used to hate wearing shorts. But by 6th grade, almost everybody was. So eventually, I conformed to the social trend. The funny thing is that now I hate wearing pants!
