Shine With The Sun was a track written about the sudden loss of my Granddad at 51 who acted as the main father figure in my life. The lyrics essentially symbolise how him passing still doesn't prevent him from looking after me. I recorded two audio files in this track:

1. Vocals and rhythm guitar
2. Decorative lead

This ended up being a sample recording whilst messing around with different vocal techniques and percussion instruments. The lyrics were unprepared and made up as I proceeded to record; however, I liked how they sounded quite dark - especially with the sounds reverberating throughout the track. The tambourine is exceptionally out of time; therefore, I only ended up recording this as a sample before proceeding to record Shine With The Sun.

Term 3 Overview

Throughout the duration of this term I've developed a range of skills in regards to songwriting and experimenting with different genres; however, for my final recordings I unintentionally stuck with quite a dreamy theme, through plenty of reverb and the use of simple structures and prolonged chords, in an attempt to generate a chilling effect. All of my songs are for some reason about relatively depressing subjects, with lyrics that consist of both a mixture of personal and external experiencesobservations.

To add a little more to the song and make it sound a more upbeat, my friend Fred and I added a few audio files and external MIDI tracks. Fred's contributions were more percussion based, as he added a recording of him playing the drums and the subtle clapping/knocking sounds on the table, throughout, while I added the various MIDI effects (keeping it dreamy, as always).

This version of the track sounds as though it is a lot more influenced by jazz - especially with the style in which Fred plays the drums; however, with not re-recording my vocals, I do feel I sound a little distant yet I like how the song now revolves a lot more around the instruments as opposed to my lyrics.
