Elizabeth Dahlen
Summary:

Diseases and illnesses - Antibiotic resistance

A central idea of this article is bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics because of over use by patients, and over prescription by doctors. Some fascinating details are that antibiotic resistance occurs naturally, but misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals is speeding up the process. This shows that antibiotics are not going to work forever, but humans are certainly going to accelerate the process. Another fascinating detail is the bacteria is becoming resistant, not humans and animals. This shows that human bodies are not the things becoming resistant, but it is the bacteria that is becoming resistant. One more fascinating detail is that health professionals should only prescribe antibiotics when they are needed. This shows that doctors are also over prescribing antibiotics.

Antibiotics-

a medicine (such as penicillin or its derivatives) that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms.
Bacteria-

a member of a large group of unicellular microorganisms which have cell walls but lack organelles and an organized nucleus, including some which can cause disease.
Prescription-

an instruction written by a medical practitioner that authorizes a patient to be provided a medicine or treatment.
Resistance-

the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to prevent something by action or argument.

(this is a picture of bacteria)

Here is the link:
https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/antibiotic-resistance

My poem:

Agonize

Not harmful

Treatment

Immune

Bacterial

Infection

Overtly positive

Tarnish diseases

Inside the body

Cure

Saving
