Personal Event (Age-graded): At 7-8 months I began to babble and at 1 year, I began to walk. I was my parent's first born and they always celebrated every milestone I had and just showered me with love in general. I can connect these events during my infancy/toddler years to the concept of Emotional Display Rules where my parents always displayed positive emotions like joy and interest just like most parents in North America.

History Graded Event: In 1994, the U.S. began new law enforcement plan that increased border security and pushed for deportation of criminal aliens. Residing in a border town, my parents were exposed to these issues along with the organized crime activity in the neighboring city, Matamoros, Tamaulipas. They mostly protected themselves and me of those issues which impacted my development in a positive way because they did not introduce any stress to my environment.

So by the time I was six years old, I had gained two siblings which helped my emotional understanding. My sister, since she was closer to my age, played an important role to my emotional understanding. Our interactions helped me identify emotions, find causes of emotions, practice empathy, and helped regulate emotions. We would frequently pretend play in my grandma’s back yard which is beneficial for understanding emotion by acting out feelings and considering others’ perspectives.

History Graded Event: Bill Clinton was elected in 1992 and during his term, he raised the minimum wage to $5.15 an hour, directly benefiting 1.6 million Hispanic workers, that included my family. This new opportunity benefited my family and my development in regards to my body growth and nutrition. Chapter 4 states that low-income families have difficulty providing the necessary foods for their children's healthy development and often do not have medical insurance. With the raise of minimal wage, my family were able to earn and pay for nutritional food for us and to obtain medical insurance.

Personal Event (Age-Graded): An age graded event occurred when I was 8 years old and I entered the third grade at my elementary school. I was really involved in extra curricular activities. I joined the cheerleading team and participated in small plays we would have in our class room. My father was glad I was being more social in school, however, he warned me that I need to put as much effort into my Academics than extra curricular activities. He further threatened if my grades began to fall, he will pull me from these activities. I relate this experience in my life with the concept of Parenting Style in Chapter 8. The chapter indicated that Authoritative Parenting style is the most efficient and beneficial. It is defined as a discipline style that relies on reasoning and discussion. It is further indicated that children with authoritative parents tend to displace healthy confidence, self-esteem, social skills, and have high academic achievement. Looking back and based on this experience, my parent's style was not simple or consistent. Both of my parents worked throughout the day and my grandmother would take care of us most of the time. My grandmother would be permissive, and we behaved the worst with her and my father would lean towards authoritarian. My mother was more authoritative.

September 11 occurred during my middle childhood, when I was ten years old. The staff at my school stopped everything that day to turn on the television in our classroom to observe the news. I do not remember if we were sent home early, however, I recall that both of my parents were home when I arrived from school. My parents were watching the news for the rest of the night, and I remember my father was upset. I also recall watching people falling from the buildings on the television and the replay of the airplanes striking the towers. The event affected my coping and emotional regulation since I learned about the attach by my caregivers (teachers) and witnessed their responses , as well as my parents, to the attacks. Everyone was upset and some could not contain their emotions and those emotions transferred to me.

An age graded event that occurred was when I was a freshman in high school and I have turned 15 years old. In my culture, girls who turned 15 have Quinceañeras to celebrate a young woman's fifteenth birthday and it symbolized a transition from girlhood to womanhood. It also emphasizes the importance of family and the expectations they have for you. It boosted my confidence socially and made me look forward to my future like I had no limits. My friends were my 'damas' and "chambelanes" and I really enjoyed working with them to prepare for the dance. I can relate this experience to the concept of Friendships in adolescence. The foundation for friendships consists of trust, loyalty, self-disclosure, intimacy, and support. The friendship I had during this time contained all the aforementioned characteristics and I was proud to have them join me in my Quinceañera.

I was very close with my father. At times we experienced parent-adolescent conflict, however, we continued to have a close, communicative relationship. As I got older, my father's style became more authoritative. Whenever a parent-adolescent conflict occurred, he would have open discussion about the conflict and I always felt respected of my feelings.

After this event occurred, I noticed a lot of people were happy and/or relieved that this man was dead. After September 11, there was a certain stigma for Muslims, Arabs, or people who they believed alike. I believe there may be a negative stigma towards these races today. It also created a discussion about political views in my family which contribute to my identity development in adolescence. I began to explore different political views and learned which view I most related to.

It was fun exploring what subjects I enjoyed and choosing what type of major I would like to complete towards my career. Chapter 13 discusses developmental theorist Donald Super’s occupational stages and I related or believed to have experienced his first stage, implementation. The implementation stage is young adults at the age of 21 through 24 where one enters the job market and makes the transition to become an employee. During these years, I’ve had many administrative based jobs that were mainly in offices. I’ve gained a lot of experience from being a receptionist that gave me the tools for other future employments in my career.

An age-graded event occurred when I was 29 and I got engaged to my Fiancé. I say age-graded because our book indicates that most young people marry in early adulthood. My partner and I have been cohabitating since I was 23. Therefore, I can relate this experience to the concept of Cohabitation, which is the practice of unmarried couples living together. My partner and I agreed to move in together because of our compatibility and convenience in a way where we just wanted to share a home together and we wanted to be around each other. Our wedding is set for September 22 and we are looking forward to our future.

On this date, George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during an arrest for use of a counterfeit bill in a store. Police Officer Chauvin pinned down Floyd to the ground with his knee pressed on his neck for over nine minutes, despite Floyd pleading multiple times that he could not breathe. This impacted my identity in a way where it strengthened my political identity. This event plus the current racial climate that the US has been since Trump was elected forced me to be more vocal about my beliefs and values. I also participated more in voting and other civic activities.
