They stayed in small towns,villages and farmhouses. Lancashire,Sussex and Yorkshire took the most evacuees. Places like London, Manchester,Mercyside,Leeds and Portsmouth had large numbers of chirldren evacuated for example London had 241,000 chirldren evacuated.Some chirldren didn't get evacuated they stayed home with family and friends to help with house work,but for those who were evacuated around Christmas they would be sent back home to their families to enjoy the Christmas spirit.
