Swati, yes...great work. By far (IMO 🙂) rethinking assessment by changing the questions we ask is the heavy lifting all educators need to push for. We have to move beyond, "My students are using AI, this is AI generated." to "The students are going to use AI, how can I make this assignment work with AI by using it as a thought partner?"

Thank you for sharing this. I completely agree. AI is pushing us to focus less on what students create and more on how they think, question, evaluate, and make meaning. It has also challenged me to spend less time trying to catch AI and more time looking for evidence of student thinking and learning.

Educators and AI- Controlled Urgency

Thank you Adam! One takeaway from your presentation is that we (educators) would be wise to move forward with controlled urgency. We have to be fast and nimble, but also cautious. The core question when considering using AI in your teaching with students is...does this tech fit what I want my students to learn and do at the end of my lesson today? If the answer is no, then I wouldn't use it.

We should be asking why students feel the need to skip the processes that learning entails and skip right to the products. Is it because schooling (as opposed to education) has fetishized the grade? Equated the grade with assessment? One potential outcome of the advent of AI is an acceleration of the ungrading movement. You research here, Swati, fits nicely with the wider critique of the focus on grading and artifacts and their being overvalued at the expense of the processes of learning. Thanks!
