Trust vs Mistrust (0-18 months)

I believe I left this stage with trust because I often find the good in the world and turn to others for advice and support. My mother explained that spending time with her would sooth me as a child and cause me to stop crying. Her attention and care left me with a sense of comfort around her and others. "This consistent, dependable care helps the child feel a sense of security and trust in the caregiver and their environment." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

Autonomy vs Shame/Doubt (18mo-3years)

I believe I left this stage with Autonomy because after speaking with my caretakers, they informed me that I was very keen to independent play and could keep myself distracted for long periods of time with toys and also learned to feed myself pretty early on, in fact I insisted that I feed myself and wouldn't eat if someone was trying to feed me off the spoon. "If encouraged and supported in their increased independence, children will become more confident and secure in their ability to survive." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

Initiative vs Guilt (3-6 years)

I believe I left this stage with initiative because I was quick to approach others in pre-school and make friends. I was a very social kid and enjoyed talking to anyone who would listen and trying new foods, games, etc… "During this period, the primary feature involves the child regularly interacting with other children at school." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

Industry vs Inferiority (7-11 years)

I believe I left this stage with Industry because during this stage I switched to a middle school, where all three elementary schools kids would meet each other and I was very eager for this, I didn’t find myself too afraid of all the new people, instead I was eager to learn from them and show off my personal skills/accomplishments. "At this stage, the child’s peer group will gain greater significance and become a major source of the child’s self-esteem." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

Identity vs Role Confusion (12-18 years)

I believe I left this stage with Identity because through trial and error and different “fazes” of life combined with the social dynamic of high school I learned what my actual interest were and what I enjoyed and who I wanted to be in the future as well as what kind of people I enjoyed being around and what kind of things I did not like. "This process involves exploring their interests, values, and goals, which helps them form their own unique identity." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

Intimacy vs Isolation (19-29 years)

I am currently in this stage and believe I will exit with Intimacy because I am currently in a successful relationship with the father of my daughter and I have learned from many past failed relationships and have gained communication skills that help with dating, as well as become more aware of what drives a successful relationship and what can cause it to fail. "Intimacy involves the ability to be open and share oneself with others, as well as the willingness to commit to relationships and make personal sacrifices for the sake of these relationships." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

I believe I will exit this stage with Generativity because I look forward to watching my daughter grow up and become a woman herself. I desire to always be a positive force and influence in her life. I want her to continue to pass these values onto her own children. "Generativity involves concern for others and the desire to contribute to future generations, often through parenting, mentoring, leadership roles, or creative output that adds value to society." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html

I believe I will exit this stage with Integrity because I try to live my life doing things I am proud to be doing and living an overall honest and productive life for me and my kids. I think when I look back on the life I lived there will be more I am happy that I did and less regrets. "involves reflecting on one’s life and either moving into feeling satisfied and happy with one’s life or feeling a deep sense of regret." https://www.simplypsychology.org/erik-erikson.html
