Organized crime quickly emerged as different groups started illegally producing and smuggling alcohol. After a while bootlegging became expensive because coast guards would always be on the lookout for these importing ships. There were other ways to get alcohol, however, such as medical whiskey from the pharmacy, denatured alcohol, which often had dangerous chemicals that could lead to blindness, paralysis, and death, and also homemade alcohol, or moonshine. This illegal business would often turn violent as different gangs and mafias would fight for control. Bootlegging is credited with financing mafias so they could extend to other illicit activities.

In 1923, William Potts invented the first modern day traffic light in Detroit, Michigan. Traffic lights are important for controlling automobiles and have become a staple of US and worldwide society. 

2. Television
In 1927, Philo Farnsworth invented the first television in California, after coming up with the idea for the invention when he was 14. After this creation, U.S. citizens didn't have to rely solely on the newspapers or letters to receive news or images of the world around them, especially since the first broadcast station was founded in 1928. 

3. Band-Aid
In 1920, Earle Dickson invented the first Band-Aid after his wife kept getting injured doing everyday activities. He first made the product by taking adhesive tape and attaching it with a strip of gauze in the middle.

Harlem Renaissance
This movement was very significant during this time, especially in New York. This movement was heavily influenced by African American Culture. Jazz was created or as many say the offspring of the Harlem Renaissance movement.
2. Expressionism
Some of the most important movements in art during the 1920s was expressionism, Dada, surrealism, and abstraction. Art Deco was also very present and had a lot of influence on architecture and interior design.

Following the invention of the fridge in 1899, icebox cakes rose to popularity in the 1920s. Different cookie and wafer products (such as original wafer brand, Nabisco) were layered with whipped cream. After sitting in the fridge for a few hours, the cookies would soften and become cake-like.

in 1922 a new way to freeze food was invented causing frozen foods to rise in popularity
