Excel was the heart of our group projects, especially when diving into pension plan modeling and healthcare cost breakdowns. While the calculations were sold, our collaboration was not. Embedding Excel into Google Drive or combining it with Trello could have transformed this tool into a true collaboration machine.

Insurance terms, tax codes, and PBGC rules might sound boring. When you add Kahoot these topics suddenly engage everyone! This tool could have been used to review conceptual content before exams or turn tricky topics like DB vs. DC plans into something engaging. Game based learning is not just fun, it builds confidence through repetition and reinforces retention without the pressure of a quiz grade.

How to make: simply go to kahoot create and customize your own set of quizzes!! You can choose from interactive modes, true or false, MC, and dragging on timelines.

Link: https://create.kahoot.it/auth/login?next=%2Fcreator

Padlet / Google Jamboard - "Silent Questions, Loud Insight"

Not everyone wants to raise their hand when they are confused, especially in a class filled with students. Padlet or Jamboard lets students drop questions during class, helping the instructor to gauge confusion. This creates a backchannel for communication and gives every student a voice. This is so useful especially right before a stressful test.

How to make: simply go to Padlet or Jamboard. Padlets made by teachers allow students to comment live and the teacher to view their responses.

Link: https://padlet.com/ecr91707/day-in-the-life-jusfhw710xkjxze1

Canva / Infographics - "Seeing the Big Picture in EB"

Some concepts in employee benefits are better shown then explained. Retirement plan comparisons or health coverage flowcharters can be easily explained through creative designs. This is where Canva shines. Infographics could have helped us creatively summarize complicated material for both class presentations and understanding. Instead of looking at a basic slide presentation in class this type of tool adds a collaborative design element to what is typically a number heavy course.

How to make: Go to Canva then sign up. Use your imagination to express complex ideas and turn them into much simpler concepts using the art of design.

Link: https://www.canva.com/design/DAGnkqqvZII/EdkG-pNEkQT_d4sHBI8VdA/edit

Group work in our class meant messy file sharing and unclear tasks. With Google Docs, we were able to write co written ideas live. Pair that with Trello, and suddenly every task is more clear. These tools promote accountability, and less chaos. Perfect for insurance students learning to juggle multiple pieces of a benefits plan.

Google Docs / Trello: these tools shine through their ability to share and write on the same project at the same time.
