Homer was a mysterious poet. He was said to be the greatest of all of the epic Greek poets. He was most famous for writing the epic poems named The Iliad and The Odyssey. Homer performed and sang so he is called a bard. He is thought to have been blind, and so is known as the blind bard, just as Shakespeare, calling on the same tradition, is known as the bard of Avon. Homer was born sometime between 850 b.c and 650 b.c.

“Hateful to me as the gates of Hades is that man who hides one thing in his heart and speaks another.”

—Homer

Was a quote spoken by Homer explaining hateful to him is people who have the truth in their heart but they lie and lie and lie. If people can't speak the truth then they shouldn't speak at all.

Although very little is known about the life of Greek poet Homer, the impact of his tales continue to have strong effects on Western culture today.

Like I said before Homer was believed to of lived some time between 850 b.c and 650 b.c. There is not enough evidence for one to say the exact date when he was born but historians gave accurate estimates to when they thought he lived and they all fell in between those years.

Homer could of lived anywhere, well considering that over 10 cities have claimed that Homer was born and lived in that city. Examples of these cities include Thessaly, Thebes, Chios, Argos, and Athens. Some cities from Asia Minor claimed that Homer was native to that city.

Some Historians believe that because there is no accurate information about when and where he was born that he didn't actually exist. Most of them believe he did considering no kind of fairytale could create two of the most amazing poems in history.

What
did they achieve in this period?

Homer achieved what not many people say they can achieve, he achieved greatness. He achieved greatness by being one of the most creative and magnificent poets of all time, in and out of Greece. In this period an accomplishment he achieved to write two of the most epic poems in history,The Iliad and The Odyssey. There are 5 main themes in The Iliad and The Odyssey Homecoming, Glory, Respect, Wrath and Fate. These themes show us that this is what ancient Greek Soldiers had to show when they were fighting in the Trojan War. The Trojan War was one of the most lethal Greek wars in history and was the main point of time that The Iliad and The Odyssey was set place.

Homer achieved the right to be respected by all to some he was thought the Shakespeare of Greece. People wouldn't say that about you if you've achieved nothing in your life.

What

Homer's greatest creations were definitely without a doubt were the Iliad and the Odyssey. But Homer created more than two poems. He established the civilization of the western world. Well his poems largely formed the western world view of literature and poems.

He created two pieces of literature gold or was it someone else. Speculations still go around to who really did create the Odyssey. People mainly thought Homer created it because he created the Iliad and the Odyssey acts like a sequel to the first book for one it was made afterwards and for two they have a similar story with them both being placed in the Trojan War. I personally believe that Homer wrote both of them because that's what it said on the cover and covers never lie.

How

This has changed the future by allowing new poets from the western culture and from all over the world to step in and take his place. Examples are the likes of Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson and Rudyard Kipling. I know what your thinking aren't they really old and how could of homer set the way for them? Well they are old all three of them but if you haven't being paying attention Homer was born some time in the 700th bc century and the three of them them were living in the 1600's.

Today Homer's legacy lives on with new up comers every single day. You may be thinking 'I don't care about old people in a library' but you may care about the poets that have different names singers and rappers. They are poets and Homer has set the way for all of them. Without Homer none of this would of been possible.
