"We need that touch from the one we love, almost as much as we need air to breathe. I never understood the importance of touch, his touch... until I couldn't have it" (Lippincott 270). This quote is important because Stella realizes how much she yearns to touch Will. Stella also starts to gain the knowledge of how much of a troll her disease is setting her back, away from being a normal teenager.

Thought-out the book Stella’s experience with CF is cautious, emotional, and very resilient.

Both Stella and Will had a rule made by the hospital to always stay sixth feet apart because their diseases could not be anywhere close to each other. Although Stella and Will were fed up with all the rules that came along with their diseases, and decided to take a pole stick and keep it between them. The only problem is that a pole stick is only five feet when they must stay six feet apart. Together they decided to take a foot back and only stay five feet apart instead of six because their diseases had taken so much away from them. (This is also where they got the title of the book from)
