One important quote from the book Afterward by Jennifer Mathieu is "When there's nothing but silence, I allow myself one small smile. Just because there's no one here to see me" (Mathieu 128).

The reason I like this quote is because with all the bad things going on around Caroline, she is still able to smile. Ever since Caroline's brother, Dylan, was abducted, it has only been tears and coping. Since Dylan got found, everyone's main focus is to get Dylan back to normal, but Dylan has autism which makes things harder, plus Caroline's family can't afford a therapist. Caroline can still be able to smile after going through all that. That is why I like this quote.

I agree with the book review. When Dylan gets kidnapped his big sister Caroline tries to find out what exactly happened to Dylan. What makes this search of answers so hard is that Dylan is autistic. Caroline goes to Ethan's house a lot to ask him questions about what happened to Dylan. Ethan's mother always rushed their conversations because she made it seem like she doesn't want Caroline talking to Ethan.

This image is an investigator because throughout most of the book, Caroline investigates to try and find out what happened to her little brother Dylan. Dylan has autism so it makes the search hard because she can't just ask him what happened. This entire thing has been rough on Dylan because of his autism and because his family cant afford a therapist. Caroline's parents don't really seem to be doing anything but cope with the whole situation. Which leaves just Caroline to figure the mystery of what happened to her brother.

The Point of View in this book is very unique because each chapter shows a different characters point of view. For example, one chapter will be from the point of view of Caroline, and the next chapter would be from the point of view of Ethan. This happens throughout the book, it keeps switching between Caroline and Ethan. No other characters point of view id displayed in this book except Caroline and Ethan. I have never seen this happen in any other book besides this one.

This picture represents grief. It was very hard for Caroline and her entire family to recover from their grief after Dylan was kidnapped. Four years of grief for Caroline's and Ethan's families. Dylan and Ethan were kidnapped for four years, when they were eventually found. Dylan's and Caroline's parents were stilling crying for a while after Dylan was found, which shows how hard that was on their family.
