The Khmer Rouge was located in Cambodia and the goal of the Khmer Rouge was to turn Cambodia into a communist country. The Khmer Rouge is held accountable for one of the largest genocides ever. They also created a prison called S-21 and in this prison they would torture many people. Finally Vietnam came along and the Vietnamese occupied Cambodia and they took down the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge is one of the most brutal rulers ever because they caused a huge genocide, created a prison just to torture people, and towards the end of their rule Vietnam luckily came in and kicked the Khmer Rouge out.

The Khmer Rouge most of the time would execute people with an education or people who couldn't work in camps anymore. The reason for killing people with an education was that anyone who had some type of knowledge was seen as a threat to Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge and so for them assure their power they killed all their competition. What made this genocide different was that everyone could be considered to be an enemy of the state. People were sent to prison for no apparent reason. Some people would make a crime up they did so they could go to prison since they thought this would end their misery? Towards the beginning of the regimes rule killing was not needed since many people died of hunger but when prisons started to fill up with people killing was the only resort left for them. While genocide was still going on the only way for survival was if a person could do labor, so anyone who was an infant, sick, or old would not have a chance at survival. The regime took schools, pagodas and government property and turned it all into prison and labor camps.

Tuol Svay Prey High School became the prison S-21 during the rule of the Khmer Rouge. This prison held 14,000 people and of the 14,000 people only twelve people survived. Even when the regime turned the highschool into a prison it still did look like a high school. S21 was surrounded by a double wall of corrugated iron topped with barbed wire. A lot of the classrooms were separated into small cells for the prisoners. The prisoners were forced to be chained to the ground, they got very few showers and very little food but they got a lot of torture. The people were forced to sign fake papers that say they are spies for the enemies. Prisoners were not aloud to talk to their other inmates and they were not aloud to make any noise or else they would be punished.

During 1978 Vietnam put many soldiers on the Cambodian border. On December 25, 1978 100,000 Vietnam soldiers went into Cambodia and gained some land for themselves. By January 7, 1979 the Vietnam troops have victoriously taken over Phnom Penh and they have kicked the Khmer Rouge out. Sadly Pol Pot got away unharmed on a helicopter. After all the fighting ended the Vietnamese put their own government in charge of Cambodia. Then all of the Cambodian citizens started to go back to their homes to see if their houses were still up or if they had any relatives still living. For many there was neither. Finally after ten years of the Vietnamese soldiers occupying Cambodia, they left.

One of the most cruelest regimes ever is the Khmer Rouge because they killed over 2 million people, built a torture prison but they luckily were stopped by the Vietnamese. This regime had one of the biggest genocides in history. They also took a everyday high school and turned into a place where they could hurt and keep people. Eventually Vietnam came into Cambodia and took it over forcing the Khmer Rouge to flea. The Khmer Rouge did so much damage in the 4 years it was around.

The Khmer Rouge was the communist party in Cambodia during the 1970’s. The Khmer Rouge are held responsible for one the worst genocides in modern history. The majority of the people who were killed in Cambodia by the regime were people with an education. The regime resorted to killing people after the prisons were to full. Luckily justice was served and two of the people who were responsible for the mass murder were brought to justice and given the death penalty. The Khmer Rouge's genocide is one of the worst genocides the world has ever seen because some people died from diseases, others died from hunger, and two of the people reasonable for what happened were punished for their actions.

Farmers in Cambodia started to face more work and a absence of food. Many people in Cambodia started to die from illnesses, hunger and the harm done to their body from all the back breaking labor the was supervised by the Khmer rouge Guards. The regime also killed anyone who was seen as an enemy of the state. Anyone who was also seen as a future leader or as a intellectual person was also put to death. There is a legend that says that anyone who could speak more than one language or who wore glasses was also killed because they were seen as an intellectual. Many educated middle class Cambodians were killed in special places that were created in the cities. Around 2 million Cambodians were killed by the Khmer Rouge because of genocide.

The Khmer Rouge was very cruel. Towards the beginning of the regimes rule killing was not needed since many people died of hunger. Only when when prisons started to fill up with people did the killing begin. While the killing was still going on the only way for survival was if a person could do labor, so anyone who was an infant, sick, or old would not have a chance at survival. The regime most of the time would execute people with an education since those type of people were seen as a threat. Children and babies were treated the same way as the Cambodian citizens. There was nothing needed to send a person to prison and so some people would make there own crime so then they could go to prison and end their misery. The regime took schools, pagodas and government property and turned it all into prison and labor camps.

The people put on trial for Khmer Rouge genocide were Nuon Chea Pol Pot's second in command to Pol Pot and Khieu Samphan nominal head of state. These two men along with other people are the reason for the deaths of 2 million Cambodian people. These two men were both given the death penalty for what they did during the rule of the Khmer Rouge. The reason why Pol Pot was not put on trial is that Pol Pot died a few years earlier so even though he was never given the death penalty he still was put under house arrest until his death. They also gave a third death sentence to Kaing Guek Eav for being the head of an interrogation center.

The Khmer Rouge is held accountable for one of the largest mass killings ever because they killed anyone who was seen as an enemy, made it very hard for a person to survive, and the head of the regime was put under house arrest. There is a myth that anyone who was bilingual was put to death since they were seen as having knowledge. The regime took over everyday buildings and turned them into prisons and work camps. A while later a pair of men were found and convicted for being part of the genocides in cambodia. This genocide killed so many innocent Cambodian people. What the Khmer Rouge did to their own people is something that will never be forgotten.
