The business began by bringing in electronics and such home appliances from Asia for sale in Ghana. The mass production lines made it possible to offer goods at competitive prices, which was a new concept at that time. The Melcom group has grown through decades to be multi-sectoral to sell all kinds of consumer goods in Ghana, including those for upper-class consumers. It keeps moving from the large retail chain stores in urban areas to the big one-stop shopping center in major cities that meet customer needs. However, I was not able to find out with certainty when Melcom first launched its doors in Ghana. Nevertheless, it is obvious it has been a dominant player in the retail market in the country since the 1980s.
