Our family celebration takes place every time a family member has a birthday, but we often celebrate it on Sundays at my grandmother's house. We always cook "pachamanca" and everyone participates in the preparation. I sometimes dig a hole in the ground with my father to put the ingredients in, other times I help my mother season the meats. We usually don't eat fish because my grandmother doesn't like it. We usually pray before eating because we are Adventists. At the end of the day, we say goodbye to our grandmother with a group prayer, wishing each other good health and well-being.

One of my favorite holidays things to celebrate is Inti Raymi.

In the morning, people usually gather in the historic city of Cusco, the heart of the Inca Empire, to celebrate the Inti Raymi festival. This celebration, held every June 24th, honors the Inca sun god, Inti. They always wear colorful traditional costumes and perform dances and rituals at the Qorikancha temple.

Then, in the afternoon, a grand procession moves to the Sacsayhuamán fortress. There, actors reenact ancient Inca ceremonies, and everyone always enjoys traditional music and dances.

Finally, in the evening, people always have a large feast with typical Peruvian foods like roasted guinea pig, corn, and potatoes. They often drink chicha, a fermented corn drink, and continue to dance and celebrate their heritage.

TRIP TO HAWAII
