3 Major Takeways
1. Cindy spoke about STEM being transdisplinary and as the article stated STEM education is an approach to learning that removes the traditional barriers separating four disciplines and integrates into the rel-world, rigorous. relevant learning experiences for students.

2. The article talked about application being the heart of STEM education. At DE we believe that students should be able to do something with what they have learned for example a service project etc.

3. STEM is for ALL kids and it is our duty to develop innovative problem-solvers. Developing integrated STEM experiences is not a linear process. It takes collaboration and preparation. But, it is ok to go slow at first.

Task A- The biggest challenge for me will be to asking good open-ended questions that are not too leading. I need to pre-plan these questions because it very had to come up with these questions on the fly. But, of course until you do the activities with the participants a few times it is hard to predict what types of questions you will receive from them.

Task B-

Task B-
STEM's focus is on changing the culture of the way we teach. Meaning to continuously make real world connections and having lessons involve many disciplines whereas PBL may just focus on these things during that specific project.

Task C-
In A, relevance took on a new meaning for me when they used immediate relevance. This idea of not just having a finished product to show bring resolution to a current problem.

I found B interesting in the way it gave me a better idea of what is meant by integrating technology. Even way back when Dewey knew that students should not be sitting rows and should be utilizing technology and be "doing".

Teachers often wonder how to make their students self-assess. C helped me understand that if the entire experience is student centered this piece will come along with it.

I n E, I found it interesting that when students are in the inquiry process they often develop other questions that they would like to investigate and answer.

Task A- Both articles helped me understand that developing transdisciplinary lessons and units are the end goal.
Task B- I think the articles and the way we have our program spread over 3 years helps teachers to understand that its ok to take baby steps. It can get overwhelming if teachers feel they are to write transdicipliary lessons right away. Although this is the end goal the program is set up to progressive move the teacher and school in that direction.

Through completion of these modules I learned many things about DE's belief in STEM. The first being that STEM is something for all students and not just those interested in traditional STEM careers. Also that STEM teaching is a culture shift and not just a program you have in your schools. STEM lessons are student-centered and the teacher acts as the facilitator of the learning process. Finally, transdiciplinary lessons and units are the end goal but there is a process to get there and its ok to take on step at a time.
