         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>What the heck is an IEP?</strong><br><br>The acronym stands for "individualized education program." Students must qualify for special education to receive an IEP. Before they can do that, a student must be evaluated to determine if they qualify. The IEP lists the student's learning needs; it also lists the student's educational goals and what steps they need to take to achieve them. Students have an annual IEP review and a reevaluation every three years. <br><br><strong>Your role as a general educator:</strong><br><br>As the general educator, you see the student and probably know them the most out of anyone at the meeting (besides the parents). The general educator should report about the student's progress in class, behavioral issues, and overall success in the classroom. IEP meetings can often be discouraging to students and their families because a lot of the discussion can revolve around what the student does poorly. A general educator has a great opportunity to shed some positive light on the student's progress. <br><br><strong>Required members of the IEP team:</strong></div><ul><li>General educator</li><li>Special educator</li><li>Parent</li><li>If necessary, someone who is qualified to interpret data. </li></ul><div><br><strong>Primary Functions of the IEP team:</strong></div><ul><li>Evaluate student's progress on learning goals.</li><li>Take new measures to adjust for student success.</li><li>Keep parents up-to-date about student progress.</li><li>Keep open communication between home and school.</li><li>Reevaluate the student to continue special education services (every three years).</li><li>Annual reviews.</li></ul><div><br>Below is a sample of a typical IEP form. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>IEPs can be extremely overwhelming to read and comprehend. One way to sift through the information is to create a snapshot of the student's IEP. A snapshot is usually a 1-2 page document that contains the most crucial information that a teacher would need on a day to day basis. You can find a sample below. </div>]]></description>
