In our opinion, it is both. Politics and the policies that are in place now against right-wing extremism can impact greatly on how a nation combats this violence and deals with the threats, as they essentially have the power; the resources; and the ears, to influence these individuals and groups.
How this movement impacts politics, is similar as they also have power, and many values of politicians are closely related to those that these radicals are advocating and threatening for, thus influencing politicians and becoming a part of politics themselves; while also gathering and influencing people of the society that attach to their cause.

These introduced acts of right-wing terrorism, with Nazi, fascist and anti-sematic movements, morphing what people conceive of their 'new-world' ideals, thus becoming not only a social movement, but a very political call to action.

However, these articles are showing that these groups are taking the same approach as their predecessors(fascist groups and organizations from the 1920s and onward), by taking advantage of the people’s misfortune in dire circumstances.

This unfortunate development could mean that as the frustration over lockdowns, the loss of jobs and a crippling health situation gets worse, the sympathy for the far-right extremists grows. In these times the ideology of those groups can coincide more and more with the common “civilians” views.
It isn't hard to find plenty of these scenarios throughout history.

When the blame on immigrants and the state apparatus becomes mainstream and not only some crazy rant on a alt-right website, the danger in these ideas becomes prevalent and important to notice through patterns on the news and the change in the people’s attitude towards ideologies that were unimaginable before.

The Far-Right in Australia has had many forms. In the 20's it was an anti-communist movement intimidating the working class to not join unions. In the 40's we saw groups crop up aligning themselves to the ideals spread by Mussolini and Hitler. But these ideals weren't just niche occurrences that were stumbled upon; through out this time the White Australia Policy was in effect and denied entry into Australia for anyone that wasn't of European decent.
In modern times the Far-Right grew in response to the perceived threat of Jihadism infiltrating state borders. The imagined threat that immigration would pose against white culture was readily picked up by Far Right groups in Australia and pedaled as a cry to close Australian borders to anyone of the Muslim faith.
As discussed in the media section, social media has been the platform that Far-Right groups has recruited vulnerable members of the community and gathered support for their ideals.

However, as social media and other media outlets continue to grow and spread, it can be used for more harm than good. Its availability and influence has been utilised by far-right extremist groups to share gruesome videos and promote propaganda; and whilst many social media outlets are heavily monitored, many forms of terrorist content slips through the cracks.

This article explores the concept that “terrorism is inconceivable without mass media”, and by having a myriad of platforms available to use may be perpetuating the issue at hand. Moreover, society has become “so habituated to terrorist attacks that they must have a far greater body count” in order to grab the attention of the media and spark outrage, terrorists now seem to need an act of shocking grandeur to access the type of media exposure to the world. In this way, the media has become a way for extremists to propagate their ideologies and draw in the attention of the masses. Additionally, as stated in the article, manifestos and writings have been used to inspire acts of terrorism and extremism for many years. The Christchurch killer stated in his 74-page manifesto that he had been encouraged by Anders Behring Breivik after reading his manifesto he’d written after killing 80 people in cold blood. This long-lasting imprint of the internet and media can be seen to facilitate malicious intent nearly 8 years later, a concept that when provoked, proves to be a scary thought

How has right-wing extremism impacted our international relations and on a local scale?

This Padlet explores the rise of far-right extremism and how it has become a pillar for the global crisis that is these types of movements becoming forces of great violence and feared ideals, as fundamentally being racially and ethnically motivated terrorism. Right-wing extremism, as it will be explored below has negatively been a part of our international relations connecting governments and groups around the world in an effort to further an agenda of supposedly creating order by dismantling the existing order and societal values.
Taking advantage of the medias reach and accessibility to the ears, eyes, and thoughts of the public, of which is also beneficial to these violent groups in that they can provide an international attention as well. The availability and influence of world news and social media has allowed extremist groups to share gruesome videos and promote propaganda, instilling fear and gathering more actors for their movement. Similarly, as media plays a key role in the rise of this ‘political violence’, the times when countries and governments fall into a vulnerable state with dire circumstances, such as current worldwide lockdowns (COVID-19), they are getting more opportunities to strike and force their ideology on others, leading acts of severe crime and terrorism. This is ultimately all made real with these groups insurgence into a countries government, or into their political system, highlighting these types of groups’ racist extremism in their quest to undermine some of the governments policies and institutions. It also poses the question of if there needs to be more done in politics and policing to deal with right-wing extremism.

All the columns listed are all intricately connected to each other and contribute to the issue of far-right extremism and how the processes and systems in our society are in some way a part of the rise of this movement.
