1) Statutes - laws applied statewide
Ex. House Bill No. 2
G.A. decides how much $ can be spent and how the State's expenses will be paid.
2) Local/Special - Applied to counties or cities
Oversight committees allow legislators to learn how well current laws are working and whether they need to be changed.
G.A. can also initiate impeachment.

General Assembly Leadership
The Speaker of The House runs the NC House of Reps meetings and they have key appointments.
The Lieutenant governor is the president of the NC Senate only to break tie breakers.
The Senate then elects a president pro-tempore who is the leader of the senate and can also appoint senators to committees.
The Chair of each committee is chosen through which member is the longest holding in that committee, AKA Seniority System.
Legislative Sessions
In odd numbers of years are get to work years.
Even number years is election years.
Governor, Speaker of the House, and the lieutenant governor can call a special meeting of congress whenever they want.
