A white man objected to him riding in the first-class train car, although he had a ticket. Gandhi refused to move to the back of the train. As a result, he was forced off the train. His act of civil disobedience awoke in him a desire to fight for civil rights.'It helps me because it explains that discrimnation is not right. That Gandhi was a wise person.

It helps me better understand the bigger idea of this article because Gandhi was disgusted by how people were treated by the color of their skin instead of who they were internally.he was utterly disgusted by how the Indian immigrants had to face discrimination in the eyes of the white authorities . He also got a taste of what it feels like to be discriminated by Caucasian people when a white person didn't expect him in the first class seats of a train although he had proof with a ticket he was forcibly removed from the train in general and that's when he decided something had to be done about it and he was forever devoted to to fight against the prejudice.

The Newsela article about Mahatma Gandhi helped me understand the way that he has helped many people in India from Britain's unfair civil laws. The story is about a man named Mahatma Gandhi and how he lead the Indian Independence movement. He was born in Porbandar, Gujarat, India. He grew up following Hinduism and espousing non-violence, fasting, meditation and vegetarianism. Later in his life he went to England to study law. He spent three years in London and kept learning more about religions while still practicing vegetarianism. He returned to India and found it hard to find a job, but he eventually found a contract that let him work in South Africa for a year. While in South Africa he was exposed to discrimination. His act of civil defiance gave him determination to fight for civil rights later in his life, leading the Indian Independence movement. He was killed by a fanatic in 1948.

This quote was specifically "Try, if possible, to root out the disease and suffer hardships in the process" The vow written as a quote was taken by Gandhi himself. This detail itself gives his general or primary motivation for the rest of the article. It explains the bigger ideas in the article. What should be mentioned is this disease is not in literal terms a disease, it is a metaphor for Color Prejudice. This also adds to the discrimination ideas in the article. This quote is what helped me understand the bigger ideas in the article.

Such as being married at the age of thirteen and having four children at the age of 18. It lets you focus on how difficult Mahatma Gandhi had it and how he overcame it by going to school in England then getting a job in South Africa. Then eventually coming back to India and accomplish all that he did after having so many burdens at a young age. Mohandas “Mahatma" Gandhi sure overcame a lot after being under so much. After his death in 1948 his message is still being fought for and he will surely never be forgotten.

"Indian nationalist leader Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Kathiawar, India. He grew up following Hinduism and espousing non-violence, fasting, meditation and vegetarianism''.He also protested against the British Salt Acts, the act did not allow Indian people to sell or get salt. Before that he was a devoted man to his religion although at one point he did rebel against his cultural duties he got back on the right track after the birth of his four son's."When Gandhi arrived in South Africa, he was appalled by the discrimination faced by Indian immigrants at the hands of white authorities." This sentence helps me understand the bigger ideas in the article because it showed that he cared for how he was being treated and would not tolerate it. In response to that he began to "devote himself to fighting prejudice."

At the end of this article it helped me understand what people had to go through hundreds of years ago. The newest thing i did not know, this article taught me that not only colored people were treated unfairly. Mohandas Grandhi was a brave leader of India. he fought for what he thought was right. The most interesting thing I read in this article was that Grandhi and his wife were both arrested because Grandhi called for the British to leave India for good. This teaches us young kids that the world is full of hate and people shouldn't be that way.

I believe that this is why he did what he did when he grew up. Also if he was not thought like that then he would not have had the thoughts that he did to help his people.

In July 1914, Gandhi left South Africa to return to India. I South Africa he was met with a white man who did not accept his presence. After he refused to moved to the back of the train he was forcibly removed from the train. In 1915 Gandhi returned back to India. He advocated a policy of non-violence to achieve home rule.
