This Padlet overviews important ideas in our unit on the topics of learning transfer and reflection. It discusses how knowledge and skills can be transferred into context and why learning reflection is important—particularly in a digital context. This visual overview contains definitions, examples, challenges, and strategies that could assist in the transfer of meaningful learning and facilitate self-regulated learning.

Title: Purposes of this Summary

Content:

This Padlet will accomplish the following objectives:

What is the learning transfer theory?

Demonstrate various forms as well as determinants of learning transfer.

Discover typical difficulties of the theory application.

Encourage digital learning: the need to reflect.

What is learning transfer theory?

Definition:

Learning transfer is when certain learning is transferred and used in another setting where learning took place. It is vital towards its lifelong learning and adjusting to new tasks.

Kinds of Transfer:

Positive Transfer—The present learning assists in the future.

Negative Transfer—New learning is interfered with by previous knowledge.

Zero Transfer—The past learning does not have any visible effect.

An example of positive transfer is when a student who starts by learning the Python programming language can learn JavaScript with much ease (positive transfer).

Factors that Affect Learning Transfer

Creating similarity of learning situations

The capability of the learner in reflecting and connecting

Objectivity of learning objectives

Motivation and pertinence

Harmonious environments of learning

Difficulties and constraints

Transfer cannot be possible in case the learning is shallow.

Refusal to look inward or self-analyze.

Inappropriate prior knowledge.

Digital environment bad design.

Excessive dependence on rote education rather than knowledge.

Reflections Role in Learning

Learning unfolds and manifests itself through reflection.

can assist learners to be conscious of what they are doing.

Enhances self-regulated learning and flexibility.

Promotes metacognition, or thinking about thinking.

Digital Assistances of Reflection and Transfer

Digital Learning Journals: e.g., PowerPoint, Padlet, blogs.

e-Portfolios: Presentation of learning artifacts through time.

Scaffolds: Guiding Questions: Scaffolds into greater thought.

Peer Feedback: Allows working in teams and one to mutually reflect and improve.

Overview and Self-Evaluation

This unit taught me that the transfer and the reflection are crucial to the actual learning, not only to memorize but also to apply and rethink it. I have learned that digital journals and e-portfolios are not technologies to add to what is already necessary, but they help to make the learning more individualized and more organized.
