An increase of mono-culture, eucalyptus trees to be exact.

Farmers were conned into selling their farms to big companies (Aracruz) for low prices.
Many villages were displaced  because of of the eucalyptus trees. Sour gas is toxic to humans and is considered a carcinogen.
Sour gas can kill people quickly especially those who live around the drilling sites.
