He called this Pangea. In result of this nearly every scientist thought he was mad(Crazy), and refused to believe him. However his evidence did support his theory very well, using the evidence that many of the same  plants, animals, etc. were half way across the world from one another. Before being proven in the 1950's that plate tectonics moved, there was no reason for continental drift. Additionally the continents slightly fitting together, could have been very coincidental, not to mention our continents now don't appear the same as they did millions of years before.
