He was an Austrian Psychologist. He argued that human nature was inherently irrational and was ruled by their mental unconsciousness. Such mental drives produced various actions. He also argued that the conscious mind couldn't locate the origin for these actions. He is known for id, ego and superego (how the mind works). His work became popular post WWI because people began to doubt the conventional reasoning behind how society works and increasingly turned to more irrational explanations behind why things are the way they are.

Freud was a popular psychologist during the WWI era. He is known for his beliefs on irrational behavior and the creations of the id, ego, and superego. His work became popular in this era because some people liked his suggestions for a better mental health and how his psychology weakened the optimistic mind, which made sense in a time where everyone was hopeless.
