The americans used to see the american frontier as a sybol of thier basic values, it showed hard work and a mindset to explore. 
The frontier life seemed purer than the settled life. It showed independence, equality and opportunity.
They took pride in overcoming challenges and clearing obstacles. it is this "can do" spirit many americans still think about when the word frontier pops up.
They also associate the frontier with equal equality. 
The frontier didnt care about a persons background the frontier offered a new beggining to many people. 
The frontier the conditions that helped to strengthen the american ideals.
