Having good hydration means that the athlete is getting the right amount of water before, during and after exercise. Hydration also helps to regulate the athlete’s body temperature, especially during exercise. Another positive about hydration is that it helps transport nutrients around the body and keep the athlete healthy. As water is one of the most important nutrients there will be many signs and symptoms. During exercise an athlete’s body temperature will rise and as the athlete is sweating there will be fluid lost and not replaced therefore meaning a risk of dehydration and the athlete’s performance may suffer.

This is a stage of increased hydration which is when the body contains too much water.
