Next, we need to notice that we add a suffix to the end of the root words.  Some examples of suffixes are -ed, -ing, -ly.

We will be using p. 31 for our Doubling Rule.  

Rule of the week:
1.  Look at the base word.  
     Put a V under a vowel and C under a consonant that follows your vowel.
2.  Look at the suffix. Under the first letter, put a V under a vowel or C under a consonant 
3. If the base word ends with one vowel followed by one consonant, DOUBLE the consonant before adding the vowel suffix.  

Try these words:
batting, skipping, jumped, pitcher, cutting, winner, chicken, gladly, lifting, shopper, yelling
