We may think we are serving when trying to turn someone’s life around who is going down the wrong path when in reality you are helping and fixing

I think when you have a mindset to maybe help a homeless person and their situation. Someone may think they are serving and see them helping someone as fixing a problem

Usually the desire to fix is an immediate reaction to a perceived issue when someone turns to ask for advice. It can be easy to assume that this is a type of service. But without being able to understand someone on an equal level, it's not easy to actually address anything brought up.

I think we all do this as we start out due to our subconscious needs to fix or help situations rather than just providing support. An example of this might be when a friend is venting to you and you try to give advice instead of just listening.

I think when you are more focused on the end goal you stop being in a serving mindset and move into a fixing or a helping mindset.

Maybe if we are doing something that is benefitting everybody in our community, then that could be seen as helping or fixing. But when we serve our community, it is a whole village that is taking place in this activity.

I think people often jump to helping or fixing when service is the better option, and I am guilty of this in the past. I think it’s important to slow down when working with others and to ask what would most benefit them rather than assume that we know what they need

We might trying to find a solution to their question instead of explaining the situation to them and letting them think about it and take their own initiative.

when we focus on results more than on the individual we are helping, it will lead us to give less and less of ourselves. This happens when we see ourselves as a tool unwillingly used by others.
