The Square deal was a domestic program by Roosevelt which was about conservation of natural resources, control of corporations, and consumer protection.
Trust Busting
-This was the attempt to prevent monopolies and corporate trusts.
1902 Coal Miners Strike
-It was the attempt for the United Mine workers to get higher waves, shorter hours, and recognition. What Roosevelt did was create a compromise.
Meat Inspection Act/Pure Food and Drug Act
-this act required all food and drugs meant for human consumption pass strict testing to assure safety and cleanliness and was influenced by Roosevelts disgust in the Meat industry.
Conservation of Natural Resources and Land
-Roosevelt saw a need in preserving the nations resources and land thanks to John Muir, who was a preservationist, which led to the creation of national parks.
Civil Rights-Washington vs DuBois-NAACP
-Roosevelt did not do much for African American civil rights, which led to W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington approach civil rights. W.E.B. Du Bois believed that African Americans should protest the prejudice they face and demand equal rights, and Booker wanted African Americans to improve they educational and economic well being which would of resulted in more respect and better treatment.

Payne-Aldrich Tariff
-Law passed in response to a call from Republican President. Taft lowered tariffs and the Payne-Aldrich Tariff dropped rates around 5 percent which wasn't much.
Firing of Gifford Pinchot
-This occurred due to Pinchot constantly complaining and critizing about the new Secretary of interior< Ballinger, on how he did not want to keep so much federal land in reserve which resulted Pinchot getting fired.
Support for Joe Cannon
-Both wings of the Republican Party (Progressive and Conservative) did not agree for the support for Joe Cannon, who was the Speaker of the house of representatives, because of the power he had. With his power, he could control which bills congress would take up, which then led to the house not even voting on progressive bills.
Republican Party Split
-The two parties split over how to handle Cannon. This then gave Democrats a chance to take over the house in the 1910 midterm elections.
Loss in the Election of 1912 against Wilson and Roosevelt
-Wilson wanted a stronger antitrust legislation, and lower tariffs. Both Wilson and Roosevelt wanted a strong role in the economy except they have different strategies. Wilson also apposed business monopolies and trusts. As for Roosevelt, he supported government supervision of big business. In the end though Roosevelt ended up winning the election.

Wilson

Clayton Anti-Trust Act
-This law had multiple effects. (1) made is harder for monopolies to form, (2) people who ran a company would be held responsible whenever the company broke a law, and (3) ruled that labor unions and farms organizations were not themselves to be considered trusts.
Federal Trade Act
-This set up the Federal Trade Commission and this agency had the power to investigate businesses for government. Wilson also worked to lower Tariffs.
Underwood Tariff
-The Underwood tariff was a tariff supported by Wilson because is lowered tariffs for the first time since the Civil War. However though, the government was not gaining as much money as b before so lowered tariffs resulted In an income tax.
16th Amendment
-The sixteenth amendment had a role on the income tax. This tax is given to the federal government is a small percentage of ALL workers and business profits.
Federal Reserve System
-When Wilson reformed Tariffs he turned his attention to the banking system due to it being difficult for people far from banks to obtain credit. This new system solved this problem by dividing the country in 12 districts. This system controlled the money supply and made credit availably more possible.
19th Amendment
-The nineteenth amendment was passed after WW1. It brought equal voting rights for men and woman. The Reason woman were granted more rights was because they created funds and contributed in WW1.
Wilson and Civil Rights
-Wilson wasn't a very strong supporter of civil rights just like Roosevelt. In face, he promised that he was going to get African Americans treated equally but lied about it.Not only did he promise Equal rights for African Americans, he was said he was going to speak out on the mob killings of black. When it came down to Wilson actually being the president, he opposed federal laws against lynching because he thought It was better for states to decide on making their own laws. So basically he's stupid and didn't acre for civil rights.
