This must be done because the police were never meant to solve, or trained to solve, all societies problems. According to the article in ProCon.org even the former Dallas Police Chief David Brown agrees stating, “We’re just asking us to do too much. Every societal failure, we put it off for the cops to solve. That’s too much to ask. Policing was never meant to solve all those problems.” (Samuel 7). Mental health or disability issues, domestic violence issues, and even non-violent crimes like addiction are not solvable with force, which is the primary way police interact with citizens. My own best friend who was suicidal needed professional mental health help but the only people we could call when she was in crisis was the police. I often wonder if she would still be alive if there had been another option.

According to the article in procon.org it  states” The 1944 GI Bill paid for the educations of 22,000 dentists, 67,000 doctors, 91,000 scientists, 238,000 teachers, 240,000 accountants, 450,000 engineers, three Supreme Court Justices (Rehnquist, Stevens, and White), three presidents (Nixon, Ford, and H.W. Bush), many congressmen, at least one Secretary of State, 14 Nobel Prize winners, at least 24 Pulitzer Prize winners, many entertainers (including Johnny Cash, Paul Newman, and Clint Eastwood), and many more.” 
 Paying for college may be helpful to the economy. When college was paid for by the government many more jobs were made, some becoming secretaries of state or even the president. On top of that, having free college allows the students to not have a mountain of debt whenever they decide to finish college meaning life could be less stressful knowing that they have more freedom with the money they make after finishing school.

President Roosevelt signed the Gi Bill in 1944 and it allowed 2.2 million veterans to earn a college education and another 5.6 million to receive vocational training. If President Roosevelt didn't do that 40% of those veterans would not have been able to attend college otherwise. This must be done because university is expensive and is less affordable for what is our future. 
According to the article ProCon.org even senator Bernie Sanders agrees saying, "It is insane and counter-productive to the best interests of our country and our future, that hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college, and that millions of others leave school with a mountain of debt that burdens them for decades. That shortsighted path to the future must end." (Should College Be 2).  
Public college should be free because of the debt accumulated. According to the website Student Loan Hero, “Americans owe more than $1.71 trillion dollars in student loan debt, spreading among an estimated 44.7 million borrowers ($25,000-$50,000 per person)” (1). Imagine how much and how long the stress tears them apart because of debt. That is the reason teens are working at McDonalds and fast-food places to either save up money for college or making money to live off that. I know this from close experience, some of my mom's friends could not go to college because it was not affordable, so they started working at fast food restaurants instead. That is why public college should be free in all of the US.

[22] In addition, “On average, in-state tuition at a public college costs $10,230 for each year. Fees, room, and board for on-campus housing are another $11,140. [23] Without tuition, college still costs an average of $15,660 per year. [22]” (ProCon.org). Should society have to pay all of this money for one person to go to college? Why should people have to pay more money for someone who might drop out of collage it's just a waste of money. Even if the people pay for free collage the fee for supplies and dorms and other expenses would pile up.

There may be less teachers to teach children as well and because of that it is more likely to cause them to have a difficult, or poor education. While there can be that issue, students that choose to keep going to college will most likely face student loan debt that they will have to pay while they are probably trying to find a place to live and pay for it while having taxes and other such living expenses. Some people may say that even without having to pay tuition, students still have to pay a lot of money for college. In a ProCon.org artice, it states that “Sweden has free college and yet students in that country had an average of $19,000 in student debt for living costs and other expenses in 2013.” However, even if students have to pay for those expenses, it takes a lot of pressure off due to there being less money for them to pay back.
