Thoughts: Julian uses his college education to evaluate himself and others around him. Julian is convinced he isn't racist. Maybe the reason her mom is so racist is because black people bought her grandpa's mansion.

Questions: Why does Julian have such animosity towards his mom? Why are they so poor if they have so many prominent people in the family? Why is the hat so significant to him?

Epiphanies: At the beginning of the story but at the end he was worried.

Thoughts: We think whether or not you think she died its more about how she was treated by her son, you need to treat people with kindness because you never know when you will loose them.
Questions: why would the author make her like the little kid but not the adults? If grandpa had not died how would the relationship be different?
Epiphany: she keeps making sacrifices for him even through him treating her like 🤬 she dose everything for him and he dose not care until its too late.
theme : relationships in life are important and you don't want to loose it

Thoughts: Both Julian and his mother are racist/wrong in their thinking, but for very different reasons. Julian is hypocritical. He says he's not like his mother, but in order to be that, he overcompensates and comes off just as bad as she.

Questions: Why was the black woman so upset with her son? Why does Julian hate his mom so much? Why is poverty 'fun' to Julian's mom?

Epiphanies:

Brett, Cynda, Isaiah
Questions: Why is Julian so annoyed with his mom? What point is he trying to prove to his mom when he tries talking to the black man on the bus? What caused her to have a stroke so fast? Where is Julian's father?

Thoughts: He could be so rude because he doesnt have a father figure. If his mom had such a grudge against colored folks.. then why did she talk to another colored female?

Epiphanies: When his mother was having a stroke, then when he realizes that she is and that he might lose her he starts freaking out.

Theme: Its not okay to be rascicit. Dont take people or time for granted, cause you never know when the last time you see them will be.
