TITLE: Davao Samal Bridge Project

The Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC), popularly known as the Davao-Samal Bridge project, has been suspended several times due to difficulties acquiring right-of-way (ROW) involving different land owners within Davao's jurisdiction. As a result, there is no certainty when work on the project would resume. Due to disagreements with two or three landowners near a pier in Lanang, Davao City, the SIDC construction was put on hold on January 3, 2024, further delaying the project's completion.

TITLE: Davao City Infrastructure Development Plan and Capacity Building Project

KEY POINTS: The Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) 2013–2022 was created by Davao City. It hasn't, however, firmly directed urban development efforts in the direction of the specified land use plan. In addition, the city has not yet created a detailed long-term plan to build its urban infrastructure using this CLUP as a guide. With the Poblacion arranged as its urban center, the city has adopted an established monocentric urban structure.

TITLE: Let’s take a trip to forever, the unfinished roads

KEY POINTS: President Rodrigo Duterte has warned contractors working under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The contractors have been given 30 days to complete all unfinished road projects, failing which they will face severe consequences. Several roads across the country have remained incomplete for extended periods, earning them the moniker "forever roads." These include the Sta. Cruz Bridge in Davao del Sur, a multi-million barangay road in Tres Marteres Cavite abandoned for a decade, and the Inawayan road in Darong, Sta. Cruz, among others. Netizens, who had lost hope over unfinished road projects in their areas, were delighted by the news and shared photos of the perpetually incomplete roads.

Armed conflicts, including the struggle for self-determination by Moro groups, clan disputes, communist insurgency, and banditry, among others cause severe economic and social displacement. 13 infrastructure projects have been completed, including the creation or renovation of 5 hospitals, 3 port facilities, 3 centers for education and manpower development, 1 social support facility, and 1 information and communication technology building. A significant vocational training facility for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in ARMM is part of this infrastructure, which helps young people in the area receive skill-building opportunities. The region suffers from poor infrastructure and inadequate basic services, such as health and education, poor local governance and a weak private sector.
