In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio , Auggie and Jack show many character traits. Auggie is smart and brave. With his deformity it is hard to go to school, but Auggie did. The text states "Okay, so I admit that the first day of school I was so nervous..."(Palacio 35). Despite being uncomfortable, Auggie went to school because he was eager to socialize. Auggie is also very smart. He chose a difficult elective. For example Auggie said, " I'm taking the science elective" (Palacio 128). After he said this, Julian said that only smart people can take the science elective, and made fun of his homeschooling. Auggie stays with the class anyway because he knows he can handle it. Jack also shows emotions - he is accepting and nice. Jack was asked to be a "Welcome Buddy" by Mr. Tushman. Jack says "Okay, I'll do it" (Palacio 141). After Jack heard that Julian agreed to be a buddy too, he was more eager to help because he didn't want Auggie to suffer. Jack is very accepting of Auggie. Jack liked Auggie for many reasons, especially "Second of all, he's actually a cool dude" (Palacio 142). Jack likes Auggie for who he is and doesn't judge him by his face. Auggie and Jack show a lot of emotion in Wonder.

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, the novel is written in the first person. This helps me know what the narrator thinks and feels. For example, Auggie didn't want to go to school. " I don't want to go " (Palacio 13). Auggie really doesn't want to go because he is afraid of being judged. Also, Auggie says " Uh no" (Palacio 51) Auggie was a little worried when Summer asked him if someone was sitting next to him in the lunch room. He was shy and nervous about what might happen. Throughout the novel, the author changes the person speaking but still tells it in first person. This is shown in many ways. For example the incident that occurred on Halloween, was told from both Jack and Auggie's perspectives. This makes the reader feel like they are part of the story. The novel Wonder is told in first person.

One of the themes in the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, is acceptance is the key to happiness. This theme states that when you accept someone, you can be friends with them. By doing this, it will make you very happy. In this novel, Jack is very accepting of the protagonist Auggie. Jack liked Auggie for many reasons especially, "Second of all, he's actually a cool dude"(Palacio 142). Jack accepted Auggie for who he was. He liked Auggie for many reasons. Jack didn't care what Auggie looked like. He wanted a good friend that he could trust, and Auggie is that person. Jack is very happy Auggie is his friend. In Wonder, there are many themes. One of the biggest themes is that acceptance is the key to happiness.

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio, the novel has many twists and turns. The main characters are Jack, Mom, Dad, Auggie, Via, Charlotte, and Julian. The novel mainly takes place at Beecher Prep, the school that Auggie attends, and at Auggie's house. Auggie was born with a deformity. He has Treacher Collins syndrome, and he feels judged by his appearance. Auggie goes on a tour of the school with Jack, Julian, and Charlotte. The tour is supposed to make him comfortable with the school. When Auggie arrives at school for his first day, he is still nervous. He meets a girl named Summer who asks to sit with him at lunch and he feels a little more normal. Jack later becomes friends with Auggie, but says something mean about him when he thinks Auggie isn't around. This leads to a shift in their relationship. Jack realizes how wrong he was but doesn't know how to fix their friendship. Julian, who never liked Auggie, gets in trouble and can't go on the retreat with the grade. During the retreat, Auggie has problems with students from another school and Amos, Miles, and Henry come to help them out. When they return t school, there is a monumental shift because of what happened while they were away. Auggie gains more friends as people realize he is a nice and brave person, and Julian loses popularity. At the end of the year, Auggie draws a self-portrait of himself as a duck, and because of this, his relationship with Mr. Tushman, the school principal, gets better. At graduation, Auggie has a lot of friends and he wins the Henry Ward Beecher award. The novel Wonder shows how Auggie and the people around him go through changes.

I would give three and a half stars to the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This novel is full of love and acceptance. At the end everyone accepts Auggie for who he is and not by his appearance, which is very important. Also, Auggie loved Daisy so much that after she died, her ghost gave Auggie the extra strength he needed to go on the retreat. This is why I gave Wonder 3 and a half stars.
