In the neighborhood of Hanlan's Point, Maple Leaf Stadium is where Babe Ruth hits his first home run as a professional baseball player. He hit the ball into Lake Ontario and the ball was never found. He was a rookie with the Providence Grays at age 19 at the time. This event is an excellent example of continuity and change because Babe Ruth continued his great career and hit 714 career home runs and is now known as one of the greats to play baseball. This event also exhibits change as Maple Leaf Stadium was demolished a year after it was closed down. Hap Holmes, the goalie for the Cougars, stopped the potent Howie Morenz of the Habs and recorded 2.00 goals against average in the championship game. Another of Lester Patrick's six Stanley Cups was won. The first athletes to win the Stanley Cup and an Olympic gold medal were Frank Fredrickson and Haldor Halderson.
