Behaviorism emphasizes observable performance and the importance of incentives in shaping behavior. It is based on the idea that all behaviors are acquired through conditioning. Within behaviorism is a learning method called operant conditioning that employs rewards and punishments for behavior.

Labster is a behaviorist-based educational technology that helps students increase their performance. The labs break down the learning into smaller sections, requires each student to respond to stimuli in each section, and then provides students with immediate feedback using quizzes as formative assessments.

Cognitivism focuses on how information is presented, organized and retrieved by the mind. Cognitive information processing focuses on mental processes such as encoding and retrieval, as well as mental structures like long term memory. In education, cognitivism is focused on how information is presented, how information is organized and sequenced so that it is easier for learners to understand and remember. It first aims to catch the attention of the learner and then helps them make sense of the information presented, and then to store the information and build up the learner's mental maps.

Labster employs visual learning, auditory learning, and digital multimedia tools to boost student engagement and facilitate learning. The lab's engaging and interactive visuals catches the attention of the students, helping students focus better on the information being taught. The labs are sequenced, interactive, and self-paced which allows the students to explore and to make sense of the information at their own pace.

Experiential learning theory emphasizes the central role of experience in the learning process, positing learning as a continuous process grounded in experience. Experiential learning focuses on hands-on, active participation, and learning

Labster's virtual lab simulations offer students access to sophisticated equipment and techniques they otherwise may not have the resources or opportunities to access. They are provided with an online space to learn and explore different aspects of the lab. Especially for students in high school, this kind of exposure is critical in preparing them for advanced studies and prepares them for real-life situations.
