this adds the theme that parents sometimes expect their children to continue the store. if the town needs the store then in the future someone needs to take over it. in a way this is saying that no one might take over the store since Kim's daughter does not want to take over the convenient store.
Charles Mored

How do we feel about this idea in a community like beach?

well i feel the same as appa because like he said the community needs him and it definitely has something to do with race and ethnicity cause its nice going somewhere where you know your welcome and other people look like you and respect you vs if its a bunch of people who get mad if you cant speak perfect English and always have so high expectations of you. like here at beach there's is a pretty good black population and a lot of the stores around here are ran by people of color but if it was a bunch of white people who ran everything i feel it would be different and less welcoming especially if they came and kind of took over vs being here sense day 1.
Addy

i feel like this situation is already happening. I can already see change in the neighborhood when i walk home, people i never thought i'd see here are taking walks with their kids and dogs. There is so much construction going on. I think choi's message is valid. My family along with many other families of color still go to small business's for things we need that we can only find there. Big chain stores only have things that are known inside the U.S. occasionally a few imported things. Never what we need though. Without these stores we wouldn't be able to make our traditional foods.
- Denise Estrada

Original local stores like convenience, corner, beauty, food business make communities what they are and sometimes are the heart of the neighborhood. Memories are created and stuck within community businesses, even just driving by a store can bring comfort and assurance of times spent there. Unfortunately those businesses are brought to their downfall by being taken over by a larger corporation or maybe because their business couldn't maintain being busy

this connects with the authors message because there explaining how this happens in real life like groups of powerful people will bust in your community and tear down and try and buy everything so they can remake everything and make it all expensive and extra for the new people moving in and it usually happens to be white people but yeah this happens in real life and is happening and what the author is trying to show in the show is an example.
Addy

"Take over store: money. Picture: hobby. Its good deal for you."
Personally, the artist's message here is like less of a message and more so kind of an insider on what it feels like being kids of immigrants. They'll always view certain professions as a hobby, not something that someone should actually pursue because it doesn't "guarantee a job like a doctor or a lawyer". It is probably still happening to this day and kids get pressured into careers they aren't truly passionate about for their families.
-Denise Estrada
