The problem that I will work on here is the problem of how to keep my cat entertained while I do homework so she doesn't bug me. She always wants to play at certain times, but sometimes my homework lasts until then.

Needs/constraints: It has to be easy for me to do, and not take much concentration.

Most horrible design

A bad way to tackle this problem is to set the homework down, and drag her favorite string across the floor. It takes physical and mental effort, leaving me no ability to work on homework.

The most horrible way to tackle this problem is to wad up my homework, attach it to her string, and let her mangle it.

Why is this the worst design?

This design is the worst design possible because it actively prevents me from making progress on my homework, and on top of that, it takes a lot of effort and concentration on my part.

Some good ideas!

1. I might sit on the floor, and attach the string to my foot. I usually move my feet back and forth anyway, as a habit. By doing this, her string would move, and she would be entertained.
2. I might attach her laser pointer to my head, so that when I move my head slightly, the laser moves, and she can attack that.
3. I might keep her assorted toys next to me, and toss them one at a time over a long period. When she gets bored, I would toss the next one. She's got a lot of toys, so this could last a good while.
