(6)<br>Leaders such as MLK Jr, Rosa Parks, and Booker T Washington set the way for nonviolent protests which led to changes in the law. Board of education of Topeka in 1954 established that separate schools for blacks and whites were unconstitutional.<br>Eisenhower signs Civil Rights act of 1957, protecting voters’ rights <br>2) Jackie Robinson was the first African American Baseball player. Equality of all people was the end goal for the Civil Rights Movement.          <title>The Cold War</title>

(5)<br>-A state of political hostility between countries characterized by threats, propaganda, &amp; other measures short of open warfare. (5)<br><br>4) Space was an important arena for the Cold War and led to the creation of nasa<br>     Millions of people were killed in the proxy wars between the US and the USSR<br><br><br>3) The idea of mutually assured destruction which is the idea that a nuclear war would destroy both sides. <br>During this time the first H-bomb would be tested at the Eniwetok atoll<br>2)the Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union with its satilites states, and the United States with its allies after world war 2.<br>It occurred in 1947 and 1991.<br>The fall of the Berlin Wall, the shredding of the iron curtain ended the Cold War. The biggest threat to the United States during the  Cold War was the Communists. <br>Duck and Cover cartoon to help Incase of Nuclear bomb was released. The peak of the Cold War was the Cuban missile crisis which was the closest the world has ever come to self destruction (6)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>4) In the 1950’s, Mr. potato head was patented, the first computer hard disk was used, the UNIVAC was the first commercial computer, and the first 3D movie was shown. The first successful kidney transplant was performed. <br>The USA also invented the breeder reactor in 1951, converting Uranium into Plutonium. People were also able to harness the suns energy with solar powers for the first time in 1956. (3) The non-stick pan, super glue, video taperecorders, power steering, passenger jet, and they discovered the double helix in DNA 🧬. Albert Einstein and Rosalind Franklin were both famous scientist that died in the 1950’s. A transatlantic cable was laid from America to Europe to improve telephone communication. Jet propelled aircrafts were introduced. Barbie doll was invented. UNIVAC first commercial computers.          <title>Pop Culture</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the 1950s, tv became widely available and very popular, with shows like The Lone Ranger and The Twilight Zone captivating families every night. Many Americans were also getting access to cars, making things like drive-in theaters very popular.(3) Elvis was a popular musician in the 1950’s. Blues and rock and roll were very popular.(2) The red scare and civil defense drills for fear of the Soviet Union. Holy hours were also popular used as a time dedicated to praying and kneeling in a church. The generation of Baby Boomer’s started. Jackie Robison rose up early 50’s late 40’s.(6) Modern popular culture transmitted via the mass <br>media &amp; aimed particularly at younger people. Elvis Presley aka the King of <br><br>4) Elvis was 8 out of the top 10 songs of the 1950s, and the Americans of the 1950s spent more money and invested in more materialistic comfort and leisure which allowed them to devote even more money to pop culture.</div>]]></description>

         <title>McCarthyism </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>McCarthyism is a campaign against alleged communists in the U.S. government. Many of the accused were blacklisted and lost their jobs Without proper regard for evidence. The term refers to Joseph McCarthy. Most of the people who were accused were not part of the communist party. Started when Mcarthy made a speach in 1950 claiming he was aware of 205 card-carrying members of the communist party in the US department of state. (6) <br><br>There are several books about McCarthyism(5)<br><br>4) McCarthyism is part of the Red Scare period ofAmerican history during the 1950s. McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of subversion or treson without proper regard for evidence.<br><br>3) The second Red scare, lasted through the late 1940s and the 1950s, it is marked by heighten fear of Communist interference. <br>The first use of the term McCarthyism is in a political cartoon in the Washington Post March 29, 1950 by Herbert Block.</div>]]></description>
