My full name is Aaliyah Julianna Jackson. I was born in San Antonio, Texas, but as a military kid I moved around quite a bit. Pretty much all of my family resides in San Antonio and we spend most of our holidays are spent there, so when I think of "home" I think of San Antonio. After that I moved from Texas to Arkansas to New Jersey and then back to Texas for junior and senior year. Throughout those years I played many sports including track, cross country, basketball, etc. but consistently played soccer from 4-18 years old. If I wasn't in school I was at a soccer game or tournament. I'm very family oriented, that's just how I grew up. I lived with my parents and younger sister with a little yorkie named Zeus. After finishing high school, I knew my next steps were here in Austin.

Because my music taste was not diversified until recently, many of these songs are pop songs or songs that I heard on the radio over and over again during a certain period in my life, especially when I was younger. I'm also really big into lyrics so if I find a song that is applicable to what I'm going through in life, I play it over and over again until I cannot stand it anymore. Generally, this soundtrack is a audio representation of my journey.

A classic. This is one of the first songs I remember knowing all the words too and sitting at the computer watching the video. My family takes yearly trips to the Corpus Christy in the summer time and I remember sitting in my carseat with the windows down singing along to this song. It's safe to say this was my first favorite song and when I hear it today it reminds me of the beach and my family.

Hannah Montana was my favorite show when I was little. So much so that my dad burned all of her songs on to a CD and played it in the car. I remember learning the dance to this song in the kitchen. At the time my dad was deployed and my mom was in nursing school so I was always with babysitters or my cousins who would watch us. One of my core and favorite memories was dancing to this with my mom in the kitchen after she had got back from school. Now I know that she was probably so tired and stressed but she found the time to learn this dance with me.

I remember listening to this song right before moving across the country from Arkansas to New Jersey. During the time I was obviously very anxious and nervous and this song brings up those same feelings of excitement. I also just love Rihanna so I listened to it on repeat.

One of the biggest and most impactful events in probably all of our lives was quarantine. During peak quarantine I was living in New Jersey and we were completely locked down. Tiktok was on the rise and, to be honest, the only thing keeping me sane during the time. This was a widely popular song on tiktok at the time and whenever I hear it I'm immediately taken back to the stillness, yet chaos that was 2020 quarantine.

This selection may seem a little strange, but this song was imbedded into my brain at a young age. My family has always been huge longhorns fans. My dad used to play NCAA football on his Play Station and of course he was always Texas. I heard the Texas Fight song so much when I was younger that I did not even know it was our fight song, I thought it was the "football song". It was not until recently when I was at a football game when I realized that the Texas Fight song has been a part of me since childhood, and now I'm making my family proud here.

I can't help but think about my family on Christmas Eve. We would go to my great grandpa's house with all my cousins and play in the front yard and open presents with this song blasting in the background.

Brutal is the most relatable songs I've ever heard. It's about the anxiety and insecurity you face during your teenage years. Hearing this topic from one of the biggest pop stars of my generation makes these feelings easy to digest. Other than the lyrics, the energy of the song is a lot of angst and anger and I love to let those emotions out when I sing to this song. No matter who you are, I think you can find one lyric in here that you relate to.

I had a lot more fun that I expected with this project. One thing I appreciated was how it allowed me to essentially travel back in time through music. Going back and listening to these songs brought back so many childhood memories. And I loved being able to explain those memories in my posts. One thing I discovered about myself was how much pop music I listened to when I was younger. I guess I expected that, but there was a lack of my recent music taste in this list. I'm glad I've expanded my music in the last few years. I hope that people get a deeper understanding of me when they listen to these songs. The same way that these songs make me feel happy and nostalgic, I hope others feel that too.
