After viewing the video it is apparent that many AT devices can be created by adapting devices to meet the needs of students. Create an assistive technology to address a student's need.

Students with ADHD typically struggle to stay in their seats during class and can often be seen fidgeting in their seats. When thinking of ways a teacher may be able to help their students who struggle with fidgeting in their seats, I came up with the idea of tying a pool noodle to the desk. Using string or twine, a teacher can tighten a pool noodle to the front legs of the desk. The noodle can either tied to be on the ground or suspended above the ground. This can allow the student to bounce their legs or feet during class which can allow them to feel stimulated/ relaxed. The pool noodle is also a good idea because it make no noise, meaning other students in the classroom wont be distracted by the student bouncing/tapping their leg.

Olivia Starr - Guided Reading Strip

I have seen in classrooms (from field experiences or while substituting) store-bought easy reading strips that are used in guiding students as they read (to help them read one sentence/line at a time without getting overwhelmed or distracted by other words or sentences). Instead of purchasing one, I made one myself. I used pink cardstock paper, cut a strip out in the middle, and then covered it in packaging tape (so that it will last longer). This would be considered a low-tech item.

This is an example of a low-tech AT that can be easily made on your own. It is a DIY slant board that involves a piece of paper attached to a binder. In my example, I used tape but other materials could be used in its place. This is a great AT for students who are struggling with motor skills or visual impairments.
