When Susanna arrives to the mental institution, she meets other girls with psychological issues that somewhat help her survive the institution. Well the sections/chapters go from story to story. This is a memoir from Kaysen's time spent at McLean mental hospital. I especially like how Kaysen includes her records from her time at McLean in her writings. i think it gives a sense of originality and its gives the audience an idea of how hospitals used to document things.

In the book, the psychological issues are displayed pretty good. For example, Lisa. Lisa is a diagnosed sociopath in the novel. She shows symptoms of a sociopath or Anti-Social Personality Disorder such as manipulation. In section 21, Lisa makes a huge scene to get what she wants. What Lisa wants is fresh air. Lisa starts to pound on the doors of the nurses office and screaming to get let out for some fresh air. Valerie, the head nurse, comes out to talk to Lisa, after Lisa threatens to call her lawyers. The whole section is based on Lisa's manipulation skills.

I would recommend this book because its a really good read with short chapters and easy to comprehend stories. • Difficulty feeling appreciation, understanding, or empathy
• Having difficult relationships or troubles maintaining a healthy relationship due to intense love or an idea of what hate feels like to them
• extreme low self-esteem such as a poor idealization of what they look like

•  Dangerous behaviors such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and unsafe sex
