We expect students to "demonstrate the ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse teams (p.22), but forget that collaboration doesn't have to be face to face. With the digital world, we have blogging, mediators, videographers, and more. We can have our students collaborate online via Skype, or other similar tools to connect with other people around the world. Instead of just thinking these things, we need to put them into a format we can review. We have to do this during and after the lesson so real transformation can be made. Teachers gain feedback through evaluation from our administration, which we use for awhile, but them do we actually remember to use it frequently? We also spend a lot of time focusing on student progress and learning. "It is easy for teachers to spend so much time and energy focused on their students’ progress that they forget to consider their own performance. Self reflection can be a valuable tool that helps make you aware of how you are teaching, which in turn makes you a better teacher" ("Why Teachers Need to Reflect", 2017). We have to reflect in various ways: through our administration, through student feedback, brainstorming, and questioning ourselves. I use technology, however I've never thought of it as fitting the technology to the task. I believe there are many other opportunities I can include this, however I haven't figured out a way to make them mesh together. The reflection piece has also made me think about the impact on instruction and improvement more than normal. If teachers in my district were aware of fitting technology to the task, instead of task to technology, they could focus more on the learning instead of the teaching. We have to prepare students for their futures, and though we are becoming more taken over by tech, students still have to utilize the best format for completing thing. If we model this, through appropriate technology usage, They will be more prepared.
