Little did we know these prisoners started Australia's first European settlement. They stopped sending prisoners there in 1868. When these prisoners were out of prison,lots were given land to farm. Then a giant treasure hunt started... gold was found. Australia gained their independence in 1901 but still are impacted by the British by putting "A small copy of the British '"Union Jack"' in one corner.
