Cuando yo fui a españa para estudiar, viví con una familia anfitriona. Fui a una escuela pública en Madrid donde tenía que vestirme en uniforme. Tomé clases en Inglés, Ciencia, Matemáticas, y Religión. Había profesores muy interesantes. Pero también había profesores que no eran agradables. Hice pocos amigos pero había estudiantes muy interesantes en la escuela. Ellos crecieron en una cultura muy diferente que la mía y eso era muy fascinante. Me gustaba hablar con la gente en España. En España viví en un apartamento en Madrid pequeno. En españa tenía tres hermanas. También tenía mi padre y madre anfitriona. Cuando no estaba en la escuela me gustaba ir a la tienda de trajes de disfraz. Me gustaba ver el maquillaje. Todo los sabados yo fui con mi madre a el mercado para comprar comida. Compraríamos frutas, vegetales y otras cosas. También compraríamos libros y pintura para pintar arte. Mi favorita comida que mi familia en España hizo era la Paella. Era muy rico y a veces le pregunte a mi madre anfitriona que hiciera paella. Mi familia era católica y cada semana yo fui a la misa con ellos. Allí conocí muchas personas y hice muchas amigos con gente en mi comunidad y aprendí de sus vidas.

What differences have you seen between the Spanish language and your native language?

Seeing as my native language is technically Spanish I didn’t really see a difference in this course which is ironic because Spanish Spanish doesn’t really sound the same as Latin American Spanish, which is devoid of that very pertinent Spanish Spanish coronal fricative.

What did you find interesting and exciting about the Spanish culture?

I did not find anything particularly interesting and exciting about the Spanish culture as presented in this course. There is an asymmetry between American and Spanish culture but for the most part they are very similar. I think Moorish influence on Spain is very interesting and that influence upon the Spanish language would’ve been very interesting to learn about.

What do you hope to learn if you continue to study the Spanish language?

If I continue to study the Spanish language I hope to gain a proficiency in Spanish that will allow me to communicate with native speakers. I would also like to be able to write better in Spanish too.

We have learned elements of a language in a different teaching/learning style than you may be used to. Talk about your experience with learning Spanish in an online class.

If I didn’t need the foreign language credits to graduate, if I had a real live foreign language class I could take at my school, I wouldn’t have taken it online. It is not very interesting and most of my peers only pass through sheer will, and the combined forces of quizlet and translate. It shouldn’t be this difficult.

What did you like about the course? What did you not like and/or could be improved?

I like how easy it was to ignore until I couldn’t anymore. Some of the problems are just built into the NCVPS framework. It’d be really helpful if we had more interactive features like if we could see the person say the word or if we could talk to a native/proficient speaker.

What things did your teacher do to help you with your learning? Was there anything that your teacher didn't do that would have helped you?

Writing was my biggest problem with this course, it was a bigger percentage of our grade than the 2-3 vocab quizzes that we had for every segment. I wish we had more examples of writing and of grammar because those were things I really struggled with
