Summary - Poor Refugee Conditions/System

Throughout the book so far, Little Bee and her companions along the way (Yevette, the girl with no name, and the Sahari girl) have all experienced what the immigration system is like and how corrupt it really is. All of them ended up in the immigration center one way or another and each one experienced many different consequences because of that. Even characters who had not even experienced what immigration was like firsthand talked about how corrupt the system is. In reality, the system does not provide up-to-standard living conditions both mentally and physically, sometimes there isn't even a plan for what to do with the immigrants, and the people in the system have way too much authority. In the case of Little Bee, she didn't have any papers and therefore no identification of herself, so who knows how long she would have been stuck in the center without the help of Yevette. Adding on to the situation of Yevette, it is just wrong how someone is able to give their body up in order for another to pull some string and release them for that. I mean, the guard shouldn't even have that power in the first place and someone should be looking over them. What's worse, the fact that once they were free, they were still technically on the run because they had no papers and were illegal. That would make them if not in a worse situation than actually being stuck inside of the center. All these strings of events shouldn't have even occurred and there should be a better way for the system to run, hence this is a societal issue. It connects to a good number of people in society as well as plays a pivotal role in shaping one's life.
