Nowadays, people cannot live without their cellphones on their hands, which enables them to communicate with others. "Connected, but Alone", speech by Sherry Turkle, made me realize that the presence of advance technology really changed us.

I agree when Sherry Turkle argued about the dependency of most on cellular devices, because people nowadays are glued to their cellular phones. I have come to realize that I too am consumed by technology. I have been way too focused on my phone and on my social media accounts. It came to the point that when I have some problems or rants in life, instead of sharing them to my family and friends, I always end up posting it on my timeline. Whenever I have something to ask or need some help from my parents, even if they are just a meter away, I just text them instead. I am shy to talk to them directly. This went the same with my friends, I tend to say my opinions through text. And that is why I agree that texting or chatting through mobile devices and other communicating devices help us not to feel alone but creates a distance between the people around us.

I also agree on her discussion that people use technology to divert their attention to their phones when they are in grief, when they avoid heartaches and such more. I, myself, sometimes forget the reality, technology and the social media brings me to another dimension where it made me feel different emotions. I see everything, every different situations, events and other kind of stuffs posted; like "memes", jokes and other pictures that would make me laugh. We may also feel and relate to the qoutes posted online, in social media. But we may also experience those and we may remove the grief in our lives when we open ourselves to our family and friends perhaps. We might feel comfortable being connected to other people online but you will feel better when you talk it out to someone who really cares personally, who really knows who you are, and who is there physically.

Thus, we really need to communicate personally and consider the proper use of technology and for us to not be totally cosumed by it. Technology have many benefits to us humans, but along with that we developed the practice of communicating through it. We forgot to commumicate to others directly. This lead us to be dependent on technology and independent to other people.

Yes we can connect to other people through technology and we receive many good things from it, but we should know how to limit ourselves. Do not let technology control us, we should be the ones taking control instead. Because every action has its own consequence. We focus on reaching out on others, little did we know that we are loosing the ones who are already there. Technology is beneficial, but people are more important.
