Symbolism: The use of "poppies" in 'To Autumn' was deliberate in trying to convey an idea eternal sleep, oblivion and imagination. In the 18th century poppies were used to make opium. The author being from England and at the time the English empire was the most powerful in the world giving them access to many of these types of drugs and resources.
Simile: "And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep" (Keats 19). This simile puts the emphasis on the harvest and the beauty within it.
Personification: Keats, is personified as a woman. A women who has been through a turbulent time and now she has the time to rest. Keats, also personifies Autumn as a type of harvester.
Diction: Specific words help to personify autumn as a type of women and harvester.

In the second stanza of "To Autumn" the authors displays a tranquil tone. This is conveyed through autumnal imagery through words. He describes autumns hair as being lifted softly in a breeze, the sweet scent of poppies, and the slow passage of time. These images convey peace and serenity.
