    This shows the first encounter with a communist threat in Vietnam.

       3. Vietnam begins establishing a communist outpost
       4. French troops are defeated and humiliated 

    The French are defeated and hurt by the loss putting doubt in their minds.

        5. The US president informs the nation about the “Domino theory.”

    • The Domino Theory puts fear in the minds of others making communism a great danger. This made the US act very quickly and with haste.

Especially after the domino theory. It caused Americans to feel endangered at the thought that all nations will become communist if they don't stop it. So, the US tried to weasel in and play a part in the war, without actually fighting. So they were trying to get the outcome they wanted without fighting for it.
