Shintoism shows significance into their relationship with nature and the many Gods.<br>Often, marriage follows Shinto rituals and funerals follow by Buddhist tradition.<br>Most rituals are practice out of respect for social traditions rather than religious conviction.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The official language of Japan is Japanese.<br>They have different types of written language such as Kanji which is related to Chinese characters, it has two readings and can either be pronounced based on ancient Chinese pronunciation or Japanese pronunciation. <br>Phonetic alphabets are also incorporated into their language: hiragana and katakana which are simplified characters. Romaji is also used.<br>Characters can be written or read vertically from right to left or horizontally from left to right.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Japanese society values loyalty. In the economic aspect, loyalty, devotion and cooperation are more favored than aggressiveness.<br><mark>GREETINGS</mark>: A bow with feet together and at a 45 degree angle is a traditional greeting between Japaneses. Different greetings vary depending on the relationship with each other. Verbal greetings also depend on superiority <br>- if they wish to show further respect or humility, they bow lower.<br>- A handshake with foreigners would be most appropriate, only some would prefer a bow.<br>- Used of first name is reserved for family and friends. The suffix following their name;"chan" is for girls and "kun" for boys.<br>-<br><mark>GESTURES: </mark><br>- yawning, chewing gum, and ankle crossed over knee in public is ill-mannered and impolite.<br>- It is polite to point with the entire hand and a slight bow with a chopping motion of the hand means " please excuse me coming through".<br>- making an X at chin level with hands or forearms mean no and a circle would mean yes, relative to the American's way of thumbs up and thumbs down.  Shaking hand side to side with palm forward also means no.<br>- They point to their nose with their index finger when referring to themselves.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><mark>Diet: </mark><br>Their diet is largely rice, seafood, fresh vegetables, and fruits with rice and tea being apart of many meals. Most dishes use soy sauce, fish broth, or sweet sake. Popular dishes are miso soup, ramen egg noodles, udon wheat noodles and buckwheat noodle.<br><br><mark>Holidays:</mark><br><br>3 Major holidays are New years, Golden week, and Obon festival.<br>- New years: In celebrating the new year, cards are sent out to family and friends and delivered on the day of. Family celebrate together and ear mochi (traditonal dessert). Children also receive money from parents or grandparents.<br><br>- Obon festival: The time of celebration happens mid-August but vary by region. It last for several days and it's when the deceased come back to visit or return home. During this time, family gather to visit the shrine and clean it up and put offerings. It is also a time to be reunited with childhood friends. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Japanese people are generally conservative. Guys won't wear tank tops or shorts  as casual wear compared to America. <br>When wearing sandals, closed toe are commonly preferred. <br>- Women do not like to show shoulders, and wear a  t-shirt under a dress. Leggings are seen as stockings and they would wear shorts or skirts over their leggings.<br>- The general public desire a clean face and are more keen to cute characteristics. Like small slim faces.<br>- A yukata and kimono are still worn for special occasions.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> Japan has shifted and adapted to this change as now there are jobs catering to this problem of old people dying alone.  With a smaller younger generation, a booming economy, and one track mind Japan, I think a sense of family is still valued but not prioritized into their lives. Many Japanese are focused on their jobs and careers and this shaped their society into many elderly having to depend on the government for care and be alone to their death.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
